Chemical Characterization of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Based Tibial Inserts After Ethylene Oxide Sterilization

چکیده
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) has become the gold standard for total joint replacements such as tibial inserts because of its chemical inertness, superior mechanical properties, and biocompatibility. Ethylene oxide sterilization is one most common effective methods used, especially polyethylene-based polymeric implants. However, variable conditions can cause a change in structure material, which affects properties lifetime. The aim this study to investigate whether UHMWPE sterilized with ethylene undergoing certain remains same. Chemical characterization studies were performed Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman X-ray diffractometer, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, mass spectrometry elemental analysis techniques recommended materials ISO 10993-8:2020 standard. According FTIR results, spectra non-sterile sterile compared, it was determined that similarity between them 99.97%. XRD results revealed after sterilization, there no significant shift Bragg (1 0 0) peak. percentages crystallinity calculated from fusion enthalpies by DSC samples are 54.3% 53.3%, respectively. Characterization structure, crystallinity, composition sterilization. These provide assurance keep their physical, chemical,

Properties of crosslinked ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene.
Substantially reducing the rate of generation of wear particles at the surfaces of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) orthopedic implant bearing components, in vivo, is widely regarded as one of the most formidable challenges in modern arthroplasty. In the light of this, much research attention has been paid to the myriad of endogenous and exogenous factors that have been postula...
متن کاملSynthesis of high molecular weight polyethylene using FI catalyst
A FI Zr-based catalyst of bis[N-(3,5-dicumylsalicylidene)-2′,6′diisopropylanilinato]zirconium(IV) dichloride was prepared and used for polymerization of ethylene. The effects of reaction conditions on the polymerization were examined in detail. The increase in ethylene pressure and rise in polymerization temperature up to 35 oC were favorable for catalyst/MAO to raise the catalytic activity as...
متن کاملSterilization by ethylene oxide.
Although sterilization by steam under pressure and by hot air are procedures which are now well understood and efficient when properly conducted, there is an increasing number of objects in medical or surgical use which are too heat labile to be so treated. It is for such items as plastic catheters, disposable plastic syringes, and prostheses that ethylene oxide has been proposed as a convenien...
متن کاملChemical eluates from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and fibroblast proliferation.
Although polyethylene wear particles have been implicated in osteolysis and implant loosening, this study is the first to test whether chemical eluates extracted from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) could also be involved in this process. Eluates were prepared from UHMWPE bar stock and examined for their effects on (3)H-thymidine incorporation by human foreskin fibroblasts gro...
